Featuring - John Urbain : No Ideas but in Things
The Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center has an awesome project going on right now through June 1, 2013 from a Black Mountain College alumnus, John Urbain. The project included a retrospective exhibition of Urbain's paintings and collages, a publication, and a wonderful selection of public programming; All designed to honor and reconize John Urbain. His work is being shared with the diverse audience of WNC. Prior to installation in Asheville, a version of the Urbain exhibition was installed at Yvette Torres Fine Art, a gallery in Rockland, Maine.
The Asheville exhibition will incorporate work from the BMC Museum + Arts Center collection, including Urbain's meticulously illustrated notes from Albers' classes and two design studies from 1946. They achieve their mission through collection, conservation, and educational activities including exhibitions, publications, and public programs.
The Asheville exhibition opened at the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center on January 18, 2013 and will run until June 1. Admission is free for members and students, $3 for non-members.
