Earth Day is on April 22 this year and I hadn't realized how close it was until today! I always try and do something special with my girls on Earth Day even if it's just simply coloring a pretty picture of flowers or the Planet Earth. Since I still have a week until Earth Day, I've started an activity and craft search!

- Earth Day is big with schools. On many school calendars, it is the third most activity-inspiring holiday, after Christmas and Halloween.
- Only 11% of the earth's surface is used to grow food.
- April 22 is the first official day of Spring in the Northern hemisphere and of Fall in the Southern hemisphere and was chosen to be Earth Day for this reason.
- Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to watch a TV for three hours - it's equivalent to half a gallon of gasoline.
