Valentine's Day Heart Dog Craft for Kids!

This post may contain affiliate links
Special price for Valentine's day from Feb.09th-14th

Do you ever find yourself with a few extra minutes in the day and want to find something cute, fast and easy to do with the kids? Well since Valentine's Day is creeping near, I found this Heart Doggie Art that is just simply adorable! This would also make a good project for teachers of young kids to do in class!

All you need is 3 pieces of construction paper, glue and scissors!

Pick a main color and cut out 2 matching big Hearts. (We used Red)

Choose which color you would like to use for your background (We used White)

Cut 4 matching smaller hearts out of the remaining colored paper (We used Black)
Cut one more heart slightly smaller than the 4 you just cut, out of the same color paper.
Also cut out a tail shape out of the same color paper you used for the small hearts.

You can use circle pieces of paper for eyes or googly eyes

Glue everything together like the photo ------>

Glue the bottom big heart down first and add the 2nd big heart on top of it. The bottom points up. 2 smaller hearts go on the bottom as paws and 2 more go on the top for ears. The last little heart goes in the middle for the nose. All you gotta do to finish off this cute little heart dog is add the eyes and tail!

QUICK, EASY AND FUN!!!
ENJOY!!!

Getting ready for Valentine's Day!

Do you have Love on the brain?

Valentine's Day is just over a month away... 34 days to be exact. Some stores are already putting out the pretty little Valentines cards with cartoon designs and brightly printed hearts! I realize that some of the store bought Valentines can be cheap and cute but when it really comes down to it, kids always seem to want the box of Valentines that cost the most and depending on how many kids are in your child's classroom... you may have to buy more than one box. As a mom, I know that we could have lots more fun making our own Valentines at home!! Even Teacher Valentines can be made at home and come from the heart instead of from a box. Fun and Creative plus it's cheap!! IT'S A HOME RUN!

Where do you put all those valentine's after you get done making them? In the Valentine Mailbox, of course! Alot of elementary teachers make mailboxes with their students around Valentine's Day so the kids can collect their Valentines but why not have a Mailbox at home to collect your Valentines aswell? You can truly use anything to make a cute Valentine's Mailbox with your kiddo's. Including milk jugs, boxes, buckets and more! I've found so many really neat ideas through out the web and I have a few that I came up with myself that will turn any normal Valentines day into a day of Fun, Love and with the right person... maybe a little Romance.

Throughout the next month I will be sharing all the valentine fun that I've found and came up with. I'm a mom on a budget so nothing will Over The Top on cost, but I promise it will be Over The Top in many more ways! From crafty Valentine Cards to yummy Valentine Treats! I'll be sharing ideas from lots of other wonderful blogs so you won't just be getting new ideas, you will also get the chance to check out the designs on other crafty moms around the world including some from Danielle's Place, Mom On Timeout! Make sure you check back and see what new valentines ideas I  have to share!

Make Your Own Shrunken Heads this Halloween!

Halloween is right around the corner, creeping up on us slowly but surly. Last month I started searching for DIY Halloween ideas. Holidays can be so pricy if you let it. I do my best NOT to let it! So I have been searching for all kinds of ideas, like -  Spooky decorations, Creepy Recipes and Costume Ideas! While I was searching I came across this really neat Shrunken Head How-To! I haven't tried it yet but I will defiantly be doing this with my kids next month. I believe my step-son, AJ, will LOVE this!! If you try it out, take pictures and let me know how it works!

Shrunken Apple Heads

These shrunken heads are made from peeled, carved, and dried apples. They're as spooky as the scariest Halloween masks and I LOVE them!-- Thry can be lots of fun to make and can be a project for the whole family! You can transform an apple into a frightening lil'  fruit.
Any variety of apple will work, but Granny Smiths are perfect for this project due to their round shape.

You will need
  • Firm, unbruised apple (Preferably Granny Smith)
  • Knife
  • Marker or pencil
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • Stick or branch
Shrunken Apple Head Directions:

1. Peel and core the apple.
2. Using a pencil/marker, draw facial features onto the apple. Including: eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Be sure to draw the features large enough so they won't disappear once the apple shrinks.
3. Using the outlines as your guide, carve the apple to resemble a skull.
4. Combine lemon juice and salt in bowl. Soak the apple for 30 seconds and then  dry.
5. Set the apple in a warm, dry spot. After several days, the apple will start to shrink, and the features will distort.
6. Insert a stick or branch into the bottom of the head and place it in a vase!!

SPOOKY!!! I love it!
