The hair-clips are made from artificial flowers and vintage bottle caps. They are VERY secure and strong. For these hair-clips being able to survive a whole day on my little girls' heads then they are AWESOME in my book! I got the chance to wear the purple hair-clip out to dinner and shopping one afternoon and was very surprised that I didn't have to readjust the clip at all!! Most hair clips have to be readjusted atleast once due to them sliding down your hair but I truly don't remember fixing my Pea Of Sweetness Flower Hair-Clip while out and about with my family.

North Carolina Stores Repeatedly Failing Price-Scan Inspections

While on Twitter last night, I ran across a tweet from my local county Twitter Page that mentioned how stores have repeatedly failed price-scan inspections!

Photo found in Google Search
I'm not sure how other states are doing with their stores passing the price-scan inspections that are held periodicity through unannounced visits, but North Carolina seems not to be doing very well.
My county is not one that is listed of counties that have stores who have paid fines but it's still very surprising!

The counties mentioned are Charlotte, Smithfield, Delco, Elkin, Vanceboro, and Winston-Salem in North Carolina.
.
I live in Asheville, Buncombe County, apparently we are doing just fine.

What is a Price-Scan Inspection?

The state agency's Standards Division periodicity shows up at businesses to inspect their price-scanner system to make sure the prices that are being rang up match the prices advertised. If a store has more than a 2% error rate on overcharged then the inspectors discuss the findings with Store Managers along with doing a follow-up inspection at a later date.

If a store fails the follow-up inspection then the store may be charged a penalty. In addition to the penalties, the store will be re-inspected every 60 days until the store meets the 2% or less rate of overcharges. Additional penalties will be issues if the store fails the re-inspections.

Photo found on Google Search
“Families are watching their budgets very closely in this economy,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “The department checks the accuracy of price-scanning systems in retail stores so that consumers can rest assured they are paying the advertised price at checkout. If consumers think they have been charged the wrong price, we encourage them to contact our Standards Division.”

Below are a few stores that paid civil penalties after failed inspections between December 2012 and March 2013 according to The Buncombe Free Press:
  • Walgreens at 5040 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte paid $1,745 in fines for excessive price-scanner errors after three failed inspections from October 2012 to January 2013, with rates of 8, 4, and 2.33 percent respectively. The store faces another inspection.
  • Dollar General at 60-5 Cronley Drive in Delco paid $2,955 in fines after five failed inspections. The store had an error rate of 6 percent in April 2012, 4.67 percent in May, 3 percent in August, 2.33 percent in October, and 3.67 percent in December. The store passed a sixth inspection.
  • O’Reilly Auto Parts at 1557 N. Bridge St. in Elkin paid $555 after a first inspection in November found an error rate of 14 percent and a second in January found a rate of 3.33 percent. The store passed a third inspection in March.
  • Advance Auto at 909 W. Market St. in Smithfield paid $2,950 after four failed inspections. The first inspection in July found an error rate of 8 percent; August found  the rate at 4.33 percent. The rate was 2.67 in November and 3.67 in February. The store faces another inspection.
  • Dollar General at 240 N.C. Hwy. 43 in Vanceboro paid $900 after two failed inspections. The first inspection in October found an error rate of 8 percent. In December, a second inspection found an error rate of 2.33 percent. The store passed a third inspection.
  • Walmart at 4550 Kester Mill Road in Winston-Salem paid $3,630 after two failed inspections. The first inspection in September found an error rate of 3 percent. An additional inspection in January found an error rate of 3.33 percent. The store faces another inspection.

Undercharges were also recorded but do not count against the store. The money that is collected from civil penalties is distributed through out the school system.

Of course undercharges are no counted against stores, who is going to complain about spending less that they thought they were? I do like the face that the penalties paid are going to a good cause and not in the pockets of the politicians. Schools need all the help they can get and I personally don't believe that the North Carolina Lottery is helping out enough.

This information truly blows my mind! I never thought that the price-scanners would be ringing my items up wrong. I check my receipt when I think my total was too high but that rarely happens unless I go over board and don't realize it. Maybe I should start checking my receipts more often!

Do you check your receipts after your shopping trips?

You can find my source for the above information HERE.
All opinions made are my own and may differ from your own.
I did NOT get paid in anyway for this post.

Pea Of Sweetness Flower Hair-Clips - My Review

Pea Of Sweetness Flower Hair-Clips

I've been blogging buddies with Emilee from the Pea Of Sweetness blog for many months and I am very happy to be her friend. She has helped me out in the past and when I noticed that she made Hair-Clips and Cloth Diapers along with blogging, I knew I had to work with her!

Most hair clips have to be readjusted atleast once due to them sliding down your hair but I truly don't remember fixing my Pea Of Sweetness Flower Hair-Clip while out and about with my family.

Lots of parents like to put big bows and hair-clips on headbands for their baby girls and this flower hair-clip would work great for that aswell! There are no sharp or pointed edges on the bottle caps and the clip's themselves are ribbon covered so you don't have to worry about your little ones getting scraped or poked on their hair-clips which is always a plus in my book!

I recently began doing Video Reviews. Below is my Vocal Review of the Pea Of Sweetness Flower Hair-Clips. I hope you enjoy it.

Knowing that these flower hair-clips are handmade from a successful mommy blogger, it makes me feel better about where my money is going. I LOVE helping small business out and it makes me feel even better when that small business is ran by a Mom!
At just $3 a piece ($4.50 after shipping), these Hair-clips are a steal! If you go to the mall to buy something similar, you would be spending atleast $6, sometimes more depending where you shop.

These hair-clips are beautiful and very stylish!

I would recommend the Pea of Sweetness Flower Hair-Clips to any parent/grand-parent of a little girl or a Stylish teen/adult looking to spice up any Spring outfit!

The "All About Daddy" DaddyScrubs Giveaway

Welcome to The "All About Daddy"
DaddyScrubs Giveaway!

Hosted By My Kind Of Introduction

When it comes to new babies, daddy's seem to be left out of most of the excitement. They may get a few congratulations here and there but for the most part, the women are the ones who get 90% of the new baby attention. Being a mom of 2, I remember the baby showers and excitement that everyone was showing toward me but not much of that attention was being thrown toward my fiance. My family would joke around about how this baby was going to be crazy because it was a mix of him and myself and things like that but never once did he get a daddy to be gift like all the baby presents I received at my many baby showers.

Read my whole DaddyScrubs review HERE

I found a wonderful site called DaddyScrubs, a company that caters to new dads in many different ways with lots of new dad gifts. The founder of DaddyScrubs wanted to be included in the birth of his child and since everyone else in the delivery room were going to have their own special outfit.... he wanted one too!
Watch this video to see why Robert Nickell started DaddyScrubs.

You can buy DaddyScrubs on their website along with all kinds of other really cool daddy to be gifts. Click HERE to take a look around.

Autism and How I want to Help

Autism doesn't affect my family personally but I've been around lots of people who have had different stages of Autism and I had the opportunity to help raise money for Autism Speaks when I worked for Toys'R'us and I would work hard every day to get as much donations as I possibly could so I could help out the children and adults in need.

I have joined up with some other wonderful bloggers in the Blog Hop for a Cause! At the bottom of this post you will be able to read other Autism stories and feel free to link up your won Autism Awareness stories!

You don't hear much about Autism in everyday life unless your around someone who is affected by it and I believe that more people should be spreading the word about the symptoms and Autism its self.
People can be rude and just plain mean when they notice or find out that someone is different. I don't understand why anyone would think that since this other person looks or acts different then themselves... that they don't have feelings and emotions. Truthfully, when you make fun of someone who does have some kind of disability or look different than us, you may be hurting their feelings alot worse than someone could hurt yours.

I've worked with a couple people who were diagnosed with Autism and they were 2 completely different people! I believe it's alot different and sometimes harder to notice autism in adults then it is in children. The reason I say this is because one of the boys I worked with that was autistic didn't seem any different than me. At the time, Dan was 18 and a senior in High School. He worked as a bag boy at a grocery store I use to work at. This kid was a VERY hard worker and knew just what he was expected to do... PLUS more! The only thing I didn't agree with was that his mom would only allow him to work on Sunday's. I kinds felt like she was and may still be, holding Dan back. (His mom also worked at the store as a manger but in a different department) Dan did have a temper if you really made him mad. Other than that.. he was just like any other 18 year old boy that I worked with, went to high school with the other teens and has an older sister.

Dan was not the only person with Autism that I worked with at Ingles. Their was and still is a man named Hank who has worked at Ingles for as long as I can remember. I use to see him when I would go grocery shopping with my mama as a teen and he was still working there when I got my job in my early 20s. When I first met Hank, I wasn't sure what to think. He's really tall! He's also really loud and I've always been a quiet person. Dan's mom told me on my first day that if Hank ever gave me any problems to just come to her and she would handle it because she knows how to handle people with Autism. That's when I first realized that Hank was autistic. I wasn't 100% sure what Tina, Dan's mom, meant by "If I have any problems, let me know". Yes, Hank was loud and LOVED to talk but he seemed like a big teddy bear. He did look different than the other 30 something year old's that I knew but that didn't matter to me. After a few weeks of working with Hank, I realized what Tina was talking about. He had a temper that was hard to control. Once you upset Hank, it was hard to calm him down and he could hurt someone without meaning too and then feel bad about it later. I'll tell you one thing... That man can chug a 20oz Mountain Dew in seconds! He would drink so much Mountain Dew that he would be so hyper and loud that we had to cut him off after 3! It became a big joke around the store that Hank couldn't have no more than 3 Dews a day. Everyone loved Hank and still does. He has made friends with so many of the regular consumers that some of them don't like it when someone else bags their groceries. Hank has his own car, I'm not sure if he lives alone of not but I know that he works 2 jobs and does his VERY best at each job. Hank NEVER calls in and if anyone needs him, he will be right there.

I don't see how anyone could hurt, insult or ignore someone who has Autism. I don't see how anyone could hurt, insult or ignore anyone period! It truly makes no since to me. Autistic people are just that... PEOPLE! They have feelings, emotions, dreams, a life of their own. They may have a few struggles and look different sometimes. They may have a hard time showing us their emotions but they still exist inside them. If I learned anything from working with Dan and Hank (I also worked at Toys'R'us and helped get donations for Autism Speaks and saw lots of kids with Autism)

The rate of autism has grown so much in the past few years that you would think that their would be alot of research going on for and about it but that is not the case. Autism is the MOST underfunded developmental disorder out of a long list. I found some interesting facts about Autism on the National Autism Association website that I thought I would share with you.

Autism Facts

  • Autism now affects 1 in 88 children
  • Boys are four times more likely to have autism than girls
  • About 40% of children with autism do not speak. About 25%–30% of children with autism have some words at 12 to 18 months of age and then lose them. Others might speak, but not until later in childhood
  • Autism greatly varies from person to person (no two people with autism are alike)
  • The rate of autism has steadily grown over the last twenty years
  • Comorbid conditions often associated with autism include Fragile X, allergies, asthma, epilepsy, bowel disease, gastrointestinal/digestive disorders, persistent viral infections, PANDAS, feeding disorders, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, ADHD, Tourette Syndrome, OCD, sensory integration dysfunction, sleeping disorders, immune disorders, autoimmune disorders, and neuroinflammation.
  • Autism is the fastest growing developmental disorder, yet most underfunded
  • A 2008 Danish Study found that the mortality risk among those with autism was nearly twice that of the general population
  • Children with autism do progress – early intervention is key
  • Autism is treatable, not a hopeless condition

That is why I'm Lighting it Up Blue for the months of April! I want to help the people who need it the most and right now those people are the ones with Autism. I have come to realize that I can do big things with my blog and I believe that I can raise money to help fund research for Autism. I would love it if everyone would join in with me.
Below is my goal. If you would like to contribute to Autism Awareness, click my goal box and it will take you to where you can learn more.
