Adventure Time with The Eye Dancers - My Review

Disclaimer: I received the ebook mentioned below complimentary from the author in return for my honest thoughts and opinions, which may differ from your own. Even though a type of compensation may have been received, I only write about books that I have personally read and believe that my readers would enjoy. This is being disclosed in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."
Thank you for your continued support and for being a dedicated fan of My Kind Of Introduction.

Have you ever experienced something that was so crazy and hard to believe that you can’t tell anyone because you know they'll think you lost your mind? That’s exactly what happened to a young boy who was eager to start 7th grade in the book “The Eye Dancers.” Every time Mitchell goes to sleep he’s met by a small child that keeps trying to convince him to “go with her.” Knowing that he has no reason to be afraid of a little girl in his dreams but there’s something about these dreams that's more real then most and Mitchell isn't the only rising 7th grader that the mysterious little girl has found.

“The Eye Dancers” a such an adventurous book. I’ve been reading it with my daughters for the past few weeks and we are all fascinated by such a unique story. When a group of 7th graders get pulled into a “different time” by a little girl with “spinning eyes,” They find themselves in a town that is almost like their own but much different. Trying to figure out if their dreaming or really somewhere else, the boys find themselves on an adventure with voices in their heads and a mystery to solve. Who is this little girl and where is she?

The Eye Dancers is a great book that any child, who can read chapter books, are sure to enjoy. My daughters are too young to read such a long book by themselves so I read it to them. We all enjoyed the story and the adventure that we found ourselves on. I love how these boys, who didn’t know each other very well before the dreams, ended up becoming close friends and have a secret that no one else can explain or even begin to understand. I recommend The Eye Dancers to any reader who enjoys mystery and adventure, your child is sure to hang on every word.

To learn more about The Eye Dancers and it’s author:
Visit them on Facebook or view the book on Amazon!
(Snag the Kindle version of "The Eye Dancers" for just $2.99 on Amazon!)

The Eye Dancers is available on Kindle for PC! I love being able to open up the laptop and let my daughters read or read an ebook to them! Those phone apps are too small for reading and I don’t have an ipad or anything similar. My tiny laptop is good enough for me!!

What do you read your ebooks on?

Alone Yet Not Alone - Book Review

Disclaimer: - I received the book mentioned below complimentary from the sponsor in return for my honest thoughts and opinions. All opinions are all my own and may differ from your own. Even though some sort of compensation may have been received, I only write about products that I have personally used and/or believe my readers will enjoy or benefit from. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR, Part 255: "Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."

Their faith became their freedom!

"Alone Yet Not Alone" is an amazing historic book about faith and family, based in the fall of year 1755 during the French and Indian war and is recommended for children ages 8 and older. It's a book that they are guaranteed to love, you will also enjoy the story just much as your kids, I promise you that. It combines great adventure with even greater values - they won't even realize that they're learning!
Such a wonderful history lesson!

This wonderful story is based on a true story and is about a German family who settled on the new American land, in the Blue Mountains of Pennsylvania. They lived by the word of God and worked together to survive in this new land. It wasn't until the Penn's Creek Massacre that things took a dark turn for the worse. The two young daughters get ripped away from their family by Indians who murdered their father and brother. Holding on to their beliefs that God would keep them safe and guide them home to their mother and remaining brother one day, the girls were brought up as Indian maidens, separated just months after capture to live in separate tribes. It's not until years later when hope starts to creep back into their hearts.

Once I began reading "Alone Yet Not Alone", I was hooked. It was hard to put the book down at night, I wanted to know what happened next! This is a touching story that will remind everyone just how important faith in God can take you. From a girl who believes in God but don't go to church as often as most, this is a WONDERFUL book and I can gladly say that I LOVE "Alone Yet Not Alone". I do my best to raise my daughters to be strong independent women and I hope they grow up to be half as brave and strong as the girls in the story. I'm not sure I could survive something as scary as the French and Indian War but after reading this outstanding and emotional story, I'm amazed at how strong some people can be when their life depends on it and how they can hold on to their faith in God after all that hurt and pain.

Something else that's just as wonderful as the book is that the movie "Alone Yet Not Alone", based on the book, is being released on September 27, 2013!!!
That's right! Keep your eyes out for this wonderful inspirational story on the big screen! I promise that "Alone Yet Not Alone" will be a book and movie that you'll remember for years.
Check and see if "Alone Yet Not Alone" will be playing at a theater near you:

Autographed Book Giveaway - 1 of America's Heroes

#USMilitary #Heroes

What would you do if you were finishing up your last year in collage and got the call that you were needed for duty in Iraq?

I got the chance to Co-Host a wonderful series of stories and giveaways called the Great Stories and Recipes from Great American Heroes series from the blog The Saturday Evening Pot where Anne is sharing stories and recipes from a few of our special war heroes.

Today's episode features an amazing woman named Miyoko Hikiji.
Each person on this earth has a story to tell, you never truly know a person until you've heard some of their stories and start to feel the emotions that have molded them into the person they are today.

Miyoko served active duty twice. Once in the Army from 1995-1998 and again in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1998-2004. Her Army resume is not a small one! Miyoko Hikiji served as a Unit Supply Sergeant and Armorer, a Specialist, an Administrative Sergeant, a Truck Driver as well as a Unit Correspondent!
She has been a busy woman and worked hard at all she did.

One of the questions that Anne has asked all of her guest during the Great American Heroes Series is "Have you had a defining moment during your service in the US Military?"

When asked this question, Miyoko replied with 2 stories that stood out the most to her during her. Below is her stories:

From the words of Miyoko Hikiji:

"The first defining moment I remember was when I reached my first permanent duty station, Fort Polk, Louisiana, assigned to the 1st Bn, 2d ADA. It was the start of the fiscal year sp even though I'd just passed the Army Physical Fitness Test and the other training tasks in basic training, the entire unit was going through annual testing.
One of the tasks was a 20K Road March with a 50lb ruck, weapon, gear, helmet...  the full "battle rattle". It started at 4am, in the woods, in the darkness. I had a strip map that I was barely read by chemlight.
I shuffled along at the tail end of the 100 soldier unit and by the second hour - Several soldiers had fallen out and had been taken back to the unit or the TMC bu ambulance from either heat exhaustion of some other injury! My feet has developed big bloody blisters and my body wanted to STOP... but my mind didn't want to quit... I'd come too far to fail now. I needed to know what I was made of so I pressed on and finished just within the 4 hour limit!!
After that, I never really doubted that I tough enough for the job."

After reading the story above, you can tell that Miyoko is a determined woman and wasn't going to let anything get in the way of her goals!

The second story that was shared by Miyoko Hikiji, is from near the end of her enlistment contract and is just as empowering as the first!

Hear her story via the Podcast below

In addition to the touching stories from our hero's, The Great Stories and Recipes from Great American Heroes series contains a special recipe from the hero themselves...

And since I was born and raised in North Carolina and still live there today... the story behind Miyoko's recipe is really interesting to me!

When Miyoko first arrived to her Stateside duty station in Fork Polk, she realized that her roommate was a cook from NC.

Their unit had just recently opened it's ranks to women and they were the only 2 women in their barracks. Miyoko described her roommate as having "Southern Hospitality" where "her door was always open" as in - Everyone is welcome. (You find that alot in NC)

Having a cook as a roommate, Miyoko's bunk had a few cooking devices which made it easier to chow down with friends and not be saluting officer after officer. Their room became a hang out and the girls ended up serving up enough food for some of the men in their barracks! They would literately line up at the door!

One of recipes that Miyoko remembers serving up was called Spaghetti with Red Sauce. The recipe was created to feed around 100 soldiers and has been reduced to serve 25 for the Great Stories and Recipes from Great American Heroes series. To give you an idea of Miyoko's recipe, I have listed the ingredients below. The full recipe can be found at The Saturday Evening Pot.

Ingredients for Spaghetti with Red Sauce:

  • 2 Gallons of Water
  • 1 Over-sized Tablespoon of Salt
  • 1 Tablespoon of Salad Oil
  • 3 Pounds of Spaghetti Sauce
  • 12 Tablespoons of Parmesan Cheese
  • 12 Teaspoons of Garlic Powder
  • 6 Tablespoons of Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Teaspoons of Dried Oregano
  • 2 Extra Teaspoons of Salt
  • Spinach Leaves
  • Pepperoni Slices
To view the cooking directions, visit The Saturday Evening Pot.

Today, Miyoko is now an Author, as well as an Actress and Model. She has done commercials, industrial film work, infomercials and so much more! She's truly an amazing woman!

The Giveaway that I'm bringing to you today gives you the opportunity to win a Signed Copy of Miyoko's newly released book named: All I could be - My Story as A Woman in Iraq

The Dancing Diva's

Some of you may remember my post about trying to get one of my faerie stories in book form. I had a deadline and was trying to come up with a quick but cute way to illustrate my story.

I'm sad to say that I wasn't able to get my illustrations completed in time. So instead of using my story as my free book, I decided to make a photo book of my daughters.

I named it - The Dancing Diva's and I'm hoping that it shows up soon. I should be getting it in the mail in the next couple weeks and I'll share it with you. I used that photos that took of my daughters wearing their new bows from Harmony Bows. (You can see the review for Harmony Bows here)

Here is a sneak peek of The Dancing Diva's

Aren't they cute?

If you would like to make your very own photo book click here to start creating memories that will last a lifetime!!

Tackling Illustrations

So I've been writing stories and poems for as long as I can remember. Most of my stories are about Faeries and a Fantasy world while my poems seem to be more along the lines of lost love or dark depression. I'm not sure why or how 2 pieces of writing from the same author can be so different but that's the way I've always been.

At the moment I have a couple faerie stories going and I have the opportunity to get one of them in book form. (Not to sale in stores but to have a solid copy for my daughters and myself.)
My only problem is the illustrations. A faerie story can't be printed into book if it doesn't have pictures!

When in Middle and High school, I was a decent artist. I took lots of Art classes and LOVED every bit of it! I've always been into art and designs, all my interest are in the creative field.  But I never claimed to be a really good drawer. Drawing people has always been my weakest link and it just happens that faeries are people.....

I'm stumped...... I know a few people who are great artist and a couple has agreed to work with me but it's a really busy time in everyone's life right now that nothing seems to be lining up very well.

I don't want the illustrations to be complex or fancy, I'm thinking along the lines of decorative and simple. Kinda like these cute little owls from Oopsy Daisy...

Since I can't draw... maybe I can come up with another way to get the illustrations done.
I have 2 chances to get my book printed and one of those chances is less than a week away!!

I like the crafty feel of the owls in the photo so I think I'll go back to my crafting roots and see where that road takes me. I'll let you know how it goes!
I  hope I can hit the dead line!!

I gotta get to planning!!

*Grabbing - Fabric scraps, decorative paper, paint, glue, scissors... THE WHOLE CRAFT BAG!*

(Look for up updates soon!)

A Wonderful Faerie Book for Young Girls - A Fairy Ballet

"A Fairy Ballet"
by Daisy Meadows

If you have or know a little girl who loves faeries, then the book 'A Fairy Ballet' will for sure put a smile on her face.

The story is about a group of faerie sisters that get invited to a special party by The Fairy God-Mother. All the guests that attend the party are requested to bring a gift for the royals.... A performance for the King and Queen. Each performance has to be a "Gift straight from the Heart"
The 7 best-friends are very excited to be invited to the party but they have trouble figuring out what they want to preform. After lots of thinking, they decide to have a ballet where each faerie comes up with a dance with pin-points on their talent and what they love. Then they come together at the end to compete the ballet with a group dance.
One of the faeries gets nervous and continues to mess up during practice, She's afraid that she will mess up in-front of the King and Queen. Her sisters comfort her by reminding her that if she dances from her heart that she won't notice all the people and won't be nervous anymore.
In the end, the ballet is a hit and everyone claps and cheers.

Thru My Eyes ~ The moral of the story is that it doesn't matter how much something cost or how big or small it is......
If it comes from the heart... It's Something Special!

I bought the book,  'A Fairy Ballet' from a Scholastic Book Order from my daughters' school and I couldn't of made a better choice!
My daughters love faeries and this book is one of their favorites. I like how it helps them understand that nothing is perfect but as long as you have your family and friends...
You can do anything you put your heart into!

I recommend this book to any parent or grand-parent who is looking for a special story to read to that special little faerie lover in your life!

I got the opportunity to write this review after I purchased the book mentioned above from Scholastic. This review is influenced by no other than myself at My Kind Of Introduction. I received no compensation for this post.
