How to -- DIY Dollhouse Rugs, Bathtub and towels

Does your daughter need a new rug for her dollhouse?

Use an old sweater and cut it into the shape that you want you rug.

That's it!!

The photo above is a rug that I made for Jade's Dollhouse, I also made a tiny rug for the bathroom!

In the photo below, there is also a Bath Tub and 2 towels

The bathtub is pretty simple as well

All I did was cut a strip of cardboard and bend it into the shape of the tub.
I then used duck-tape to cover the cardboard completely.

I left the rest open because Jade and Loran wanted to put your doll in it.
The whole doll house is at their school at the moment. When it returns, I may add a blue piece of fabric to the bottom to look like water, maybe even a piece of plastic to make it shine :-)

The towels are cut from the top of an old sock that got a hole in the bottom. I had planned on using the green sock fabric for a rug but once I started cutting it, I realized that it kind of felt and looked like a towel......
The Dollhouse Towel was BORN!!

#ChallengeToWrite - Stuck in an elevator with someone from History

#ChallengeToWrite
What famous person from history would you like to be stuck in an elevator with and why…

When thinking of a famous person from history that I would like to be stuck in an elevator with, it's an easy choice... Marilyn Monroe!

I love everything about the woman she use to be. Marilyn was beautiful but didn't know just how much. All she wanted was to be loved and noone took her seriously. If I could go back in time, I would of loved to gotten the chance to meet Marilyn Monroe and let her tell me her story. You hear so many things through the many books and stories about Marilyn... It's hard to tell whats real and whats a lie sometimes.

I've done my best throughout the years, to pick the truths from the fakes and I believe I've done pretty good but it would of been wonderful to hear of all the adventures and troubles from the lips of Marilyn herself.

What would I ask her? Oh.... ummmmm.... I'm not too sure. I have a few dull questions I could ask but I would hope that better conversation would be the result of our time in the elevator.

  • Why do you trust so easily when you've been hurt so many times?
  • What's your favorite role to play?
  • If you had the chance, would you of ever changed your name back to Norma Jean?

I know... lame....

It would be a dream come true to of had the chance to meet Marilyn Monroe. She was truly a picture perfect demonstration of beauty.
I sometimes sit and wonder that if she wouldn't of died so many years ago, Would she of ever overcome her fear of having kids and had one of her own?
I bet it would of been a beautiful little baby!
(All babies are beautiful but just think.... A baby Marilyn Monroe)

Marilyn Monroe would be 87 years old in June if she was still alive!
I have BIG plans for my Marilyn Monroe Birthday Post!!

Natural Cleaning Recipes

I've used many different cleaners in my home ranging from store bought to natural. I like the natural ones the best but I'll admit that I sometimes get the store bought ones at times.
But I truly believe that Natural Cleaning is the way to go. You don't have to worry about bringing lots of harmful chemicals into your home. I've gathered a few recipes from my personal uses and from other resources. These may not right for everyone but they seem to be working great for my family.
ENJOY!

- Window Cleaners -

When I worked at Blimpie as a teen, I learned that you can use vinegar and water to clean windows and other glass surfaces instead of store bought cleaners that could infect our food with harmful chemicals. I would have to make fresh cleaner often due to the amount of times we would have to spray our windows to get all the grummy finger prints off the glass.

I've seen lots of recipes online that say to use White Vinegar. Some say to only use a couple Tbsp mixed with 1 gallon of water.
I personally use Red Vinegar (No reason why, It's just what I was use to seeing at the Blimpie's I worked at) I also use a bit more Vinegar than 2 Tbsp per gallon of water. (Below is the recipe I use at home, less vinegar works also)

What I believe works best - I never make a gallon of window cleaner... Where would I store it all?
  • I make my glass cleaner by the Spray bottle.
  • I add 1-part Vinegar and 2-parts Water.
  • Mix well and spray on windows.

Use Newspaper to clean your windows. WHY? - Because paper towels leave streaks and noone like a streaky window or mirror. (You may get black ink on your hands from the newspaper but it will wash off easily, no ink will get on your glass surfaces)

Vinegar and water also works great when your trying to get stickers off of dressers and tables! (My daughters can "ruin" a dresser with a single sheet of stickers in a heartbeat!) Just spray your Vinegar and Water mixture to the sticker and let it sit for a couple minutes. You then can scrape the stickers off with your finger nails or something else that has a "sharp" flat edge (not sharp enough to hurt you but a knife works great with the mixture also!)

- Natural Multi-Purpose Surface Cleaner's -

Did you know that you could make a Multi-Purpose Surface cleaner out of normal everyday stuff in your house? (This cleaner can be use on bathroom tiles, kitchen surfaces, oven tops, cutting boards, stainless steel and more)
How?
  • Sprinkle baking Soda over the surfaces and then scrub with a damp sponge or wash cloth.
  • If you have stuck on grime, try adding some kosher salt to the surface and scrub alittle harder

Trying to get those tough water stains or mildew?
  • Spray the surface with vinegar,
  • Let it sit for a few minutes
  • Scrub with a stiff bristled brush

Instead of Bleach, Make your own Disinfectant!
  • Mix 2 cups of water with 3 Tbsp of Liquid Soap
  • Add about 25 drops of Tea Tree Oil
  • Mix Well
  • Spray or Rub on surfaces

Big Carpet Spills can be cleaned up by pouring Cornmeal on top of the spill, let it sit for a couple minutes and then vacuum up the soaked up mess.

To learn more about Natural Cleaners, a blogger friend of mine over at Pea Of Sweetness, has a wonderful post about what is and what is not Natural!

Make your own Silly Mustache

- DIY Silly Mustaches -

For some really odd and kind of cool reason, Mustaches are extremely popular these days.
But I'm not talking about the ones on your face... well... Not really...
(Even though I saw a really cool handlebar mustache on a guy a few weeks ago... I couldn't help but stair, it made it even funnier that it was a husband to the girl babysitting a kid my daughters use to play with)

Fake Mustaches hit the fashion world at full speed and are now the coolest thing since the Polka Dot Bikini!
You can find them on shirts, ties, baby attire (I saw the coolest paci that was clear with a big plastic, brown mustache on it!! haha Coolest baby EVER!)

My daughters and I felt left out of the newest trend and decided to join in....

I make 3 mustaches but by the time I was ready to take pictures of them, the girls had lost theirs.
This is my mustache :-)

What do you think??

Loran and I with our Mustaches

Jade and I with our mustaches

The mustaches are very easy to make.
To make your own, follow the few easy directions below!

All I used was Black Paper, Pipe Cleaners, Scissors, Tape and a Pencil

Draw a mustache on a piece of black or brown paper.
Cut out your mustache(s)
Cut a Pipe Cleaner in half and tape to the back of your mustache (The side of your pencil markings)
You can tape it in the center like I did or on the side.
Since I used a pipe cleaner, I was later able to bed the pipe cleaner to the side so the handle didn't cover up our mouths.

My Best Friend, Dustin, playing with the mustache after I bent the pipe cleaner to the side.

We have had lots of fun with our mustaches and I'm sure you will too.
Get silly and have some fun!

DIY Dollhouse Table and Chairs

DIY Dollhouse Table & Chairs

Check out our other DIY Dollhouse Posts

Making Jade's table and chairs for her dollhouse was pretty simple.

There's just a couple simple steps to do:

First off you will need six 20oz bottle lids and 1 larger one (we use a lid from a 1gallon Punch bottle)
Glue the top of 2 lids together with a hot glue gun
Once your glue is dry, Glue the bottom of one of the caps to the underneath-center of the larger lid.

Cut a piece of cardboard to the shape that you want you table top and glue the larger lid to the center.

Let dry, Flip Over and lay a small piece of scrap fabric to the top.

The other 4 lids will be "chairs" (More like stools)
(I only have 3 in the photo because out table was against wall)

And your finished!!!!

Grab a tiny doll and have some fun!!

Uglee Pen Giveaway

Welcome to the Uglee Pen Giveaway

Review and Giveaway

Review and Giveaway Hosted by The Momma And Boys

The name of the pen UGLee pen stands for Ultimate Grip Lee Pen.  He was tired of the pain in his hand after writing for so long so Dr. James Lee needed to come up with an idea, which is how he came up with the UGLee Pen.  This pen is great for everyone especially if you may have arthritis or carpel tunnel.  Also, it does not matter if you are left or right handed, it is made for everyone.

The pen was not made to be fashionable, it was made to be comfortable. (The design still looks really cool though)
Dr. James Lee took pictures x-rays of his hand to learn more about it so he could make sure he made a great product.

The Uglee Pen is amazing. My husband and I both do a lot of writing and using this pen you could not even tell it was a pen!

#ChallengeToWrite - Something in my house I can't live without

#ChallengeToWrite

One thing in your house that you can’t live without, and why?

The one thing in my house that I can't live without (Other than my kids) is my computer! I know it's sad but I don't get out much and my computer is how I connect with everyone... Including family. I work on the computer as well as a bit of play. It's become a HUGE part of my life!

I've always been a computer person. I had a computer in my room as a teen and took computer classes in high-school. I use to do nothing but play the Sims games and surf the web but now that I'm an adult, the computer has many different uses for me these days.

I'm a Photographer - I use my computer to edit and store my photos. I have programs downloaded to help with the editing and I have been known to sit and edit photo's for hours!

I'm a Blogger - As you all know... I run a blog. No, you don't have to have a computer to run a blog but I prefer to have one. I don't have an iPad or a notebook and i don't like blogging on my phone but I do have 2 desktops and a small emachines laptop (It may not be a great little laptop but I only blog on it so it works for me. My daughters goto PBSkids.com on it sometimes but not often) I am ALWAYS on my computer, I try to blog all day but I freeze up and I'm always behind a bit.

I'm a Gamer - I LOVE Games! My favorite game is for Xbox (The Fable Series) but I am a huge fan of Sims and other fun games. I play facebook games (sometimes), Games on Swag Bucks and that's pretty much it.... When I need a minute away from blogging, I play a game :-)

My computer is how I know whats going on. I don't watch much tv so if I lost my internet and computer... I would be lost for a bit until I got use to it all being gone. (I could get use to it though because I've done it before)

What's the one thing in your house that you can't live without?
